Meet Kathleen Kreidler, Artist and Studio Subscriber!

How did you first get into art?

During my working life I was a science teacher and high school administrator. I started learning to paint as I approached retirement, wanting to use the right side of my brain for a change. Fortunately where I lived outside Chicago there were many opportunities to learn and appreciate art. However, my learning really took off when I moved here to The Villages almost ten years ago. I couldn’t believe all the clubs, the Lifelong Learning College/Enrichment Academy and the amazing Villages Art Workshops.

Do you have a preferred medium (watercolor, charcoal, pencils, etc)?

I like using a Sharpie and watercolor or colored pencil for everyday sketching in a sketchbook. The sketchbooks have become a visual record of where I have been and what I have been doing. If I am doing a painting for someone else I prefer acrylics.

What are your favorite types of things to draw?

I most enjoy drawing faces, and I attend the Portrait Club every Friday, where we have a live model for about an hour and a half. It’s amazing what over nine years of portrait practice does for one’s skill development!

What is your favorite Studio production to date and why ?

I have enjoyed every one of The Studio productions I have seen over the past few years. Being so close to the actors is wonderful. If I have to pick one, it has to be Neighbors: A Fair Trade Agreement. The set was so clever, with the two very different houses and the abstract river running between them. It was funny and entertaining with so many layers of meaning that I still think about it often.

What drew you to the sets of our shows in particular?

I am amazed at how well the sets work within the space. I like plays in general more than movies because the sets are not so detailed as to be distracting, just enough to get the idea across and let one’s mind fill in the rest. I love the way the props or spotlights are moved or changed just a little to completely change the scene or mood.

The Studio – Meet the Cast of No. 6, opening April 1st

Jade L. Jones as Ella, TroyElan Richardson as Felicia, Matthew Zenon as Felix, and Sage Spiker as Kelly

Audiences may remember the fantastic performances of Jade, TroyElan, and Matthew in Pipeline, and Sage in the hilarious 9 to 5, The Musical – both shows produced by The Studio last year. Here are some things you may not know about these wonderful performers:

TroyElan Richardson in Pipeline

Where are you from?

Jade: South Florida

TroyElan: Georgia

Sage: Iowa

What have you been working on prior to No. 6?

Sage: most recently, Elvis in Million Dollar Quartet

Jade: Mama Euralie in Once on this Island at Slow Burn Theatre

TroyElan: I’ve been working on a feature film The Selector back in Atlanta

Sage Spiker and Sara DelBeato in 9 to 5 The Musical (2021)

How long have you been performing?

TroyElan:  I have been acting ever since my freshman year of high school. I was a little shy as a kid, but I have always loved being creative! I started out in dance classes. After I saw the local high school put on High School Musical, I made a plan to get into musical theatre. The musical part fell off a little after high school, but maybe one day!

Sage: I started performing in middle school. I was loud and loved attention so it was a natural fit!

Jade L. Jones and Damany O. Riley in Pipeline (2021)

What inspires you?

TroyElan:  I am so inspired by my friends. Many of them have worked really hard towards their dreams and are really starting to see hard work pay off. We are like a team, continuously learning and lifting each other.

Do you have a motto or favorite quote?

Jade: This year’s theme is “He wouldn’t give it to me, if He didn’t think I could handle it!”

Matthew Zenon in Pipeline (2021)

What about the production of No. 6 are you looking forward to the most?

TroyElan: I feel blessed to get back to work with a few friends. But I am really excited to tell a new story and share a new slice of life.

Sage: This will be my first non-musical in a long time; I’m looking forward to playing a meatier role than I have in awhile.

Welcome to The Fourth Wall

Welcome to The Fourth Wall, a theatrical blog with behind-the-scenes content on all the shows you love at The Sharon and The Studio.

Before we get started, we want to introduce ourselves properly. The Sharon and The Studio are partnering theatrical venues in The Villages that work together to provide high-quality, artistic content to the greater Central Florida region.

The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center

The Sharon seats just over 1,000 guests in a multi-level theater offering state of the art audio, visual, and theatrical rigging systems to create an entertainment experience second to none. Performances spotlight a variety of artistic disciplines ranging from concerts and comedians to dance, musicals and operas. As a professional “roadhouse” venue, The Sharon hosts touring productions/artists.

Named for the matriarch of the Morse family, Sharon herself was an accomplished performer, and an avid patron of the arts. While she enjoyed her time on stage, her favorite moments were perhaps those spent with her family watching others perform. She and husband Gary enjoyed the theater in Chicago, and shared that joy with their children and grandchildren when they were old enough to attend.

The Studio Theatre Tierra del Sol

Tierra del Sol was formerly a country club with performances as a backdrop to the outstanding food and impeccable golf course views. It has since transitioned, bringing performances to the forefront by evolving into a new Black Box Theatre. The Studio Theatre is now a flexible theatre with 120 seats and options for Thrust, Round, Alley, or Proscenium-style seating. The Studio Theatre at Tierra del Sol’s season runs from Fall through Spring each year with four productions running approximately 130 total performances. Each show in The Studio’s main season is selected by committee and produced in-house.

The Studio Theatre is led by Producer Jason Goedken and Artistic Director Whitney Morse. Resident Director, Nathaniel Niemi; Resident Musical Director, Gary Powell; Scenic Designer, Kenneth Constant; Lighting Director, David Krupla; Sound Designer, Nick Erickson; Production Manager, Danielle Paccione; Technical Director, Clayton Becker; Literary Manager, Rachel Whittington; Company Manager, Ryan Loeckel; Assistant Production Manager, Leslie Munson; Production Stage Manager, Grace Zottig; Stage Manager, Madison Youngblood; and Assistant Stage Manager, Stephanie Horn.

What can we anticipate from this blog?

The Fourth Wall is designed to be an additional resource for all manner of behind-the-scenes content and background information on productions occurring at The Sharon and The Studio.

You can expect to see some of the following:

  • Videos highlighting special talents or features of performers/productions
  • Press releases for shows at The Studio
  • Auditions and Job Submission information
